In the context of your diet, the words “detox” and “internal cleanse” can be problematic. Our body usually accumulates toxins in the form of undigested food material and mucus. The build-up of toxins can lead to several chronic health conditions. Most products on the market that claim to be detoxifying and cleansing tend to be full of chemicals and artificial ingredients – that causes more harm than good. This is where detox water comes in.
What Is Detox Water?
Detox water, or infused water, is made using vegetables, fruits, or herbs stored with water. It may not completely rid your body of toxins but it does support your liver and metabolism while delivering nutrients in a healthy way.
Many detox waters are packed with natural antioxidants that can reverse cell damage and reduce inflammation.
In this blog, TABIIB recommends a few DIY detox water recipes that anyone can try.
1. Cucumber & Lemon
2-4 mint leaves
Slice the cucumber and lemon, and rinse the mint. Place cucumber and lemon into a water jug or a glass bottle. Fill with water, mix, and leave to steep overnight in the fridge.
2. Ginger & Mint
Ginger is used to relieve symptoms of ailments like an upset stomach and a sore throat because of its anti-inflammatory properties
1 cucumber, thinly sliced
2 inches ginger, peeled
2 lemon wedges (lime can also be used)
9-10 mint leaves
Slice the cucumber and lemon, and rinse the mint. Place ginger, cucumber and lemon into a water jug or a glass bottle. Fill with water, mix, and leave to steep overnight in the fridge.
3. Coconut Water & Lemon – Mint
Coconut water is refreshing and hydrating. The addition of mint and lemon adds a kick of antioxidants to this drink.
1 glass coconut water
5-6 mint leaves
In a glass bottle or jug, pour coconut water & add thin lemon slices. Wash the mint leaves and add to the mix. Leave it in the fridge overnight and serve cold.
4. Strawberry & Basil
Strawberries are high in antioxidants, potassium, and vitamin C; basil has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
8-10 strawberries, preferably fresh
2 lemon wedges
1 Tbsp lemon juice
4-5 mint leaves
Fill a glass container with water, slightly below the rim. Combine the other ingredients and stir gently. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours to allow all ingredients to mingle.
5. Apple, Fennel & Lemon
Fennel and apple go well together in this infused water.
5-6 apple slices
3-4 fennel slices
2 lemon wedges
Fill a glass container with water and add the above ingredients. Stir gently and allow it to sit in the fridge, covered, for 12 to 24 hours. Squeeze the juice from a small lemon wedge into the glass before serving.
The Bottom Line
Detox water can be a great way towards adding more nutrients to your body in a safe and easy way. Some detox waters can help bloating, nausea and inflammation. However, these recipes are meant to supplement a treatment, not substitute it. For serious health conditions, it’s always recommended that you consult a doctor first before trying out the above recipes. You can book a clinic or video visit on TABIIB.
